Preschool is an important step in your child’s education. Some day the public schools will provide Pre-K for all children, but until then choose your child’s beginning wisely.
We realize that each child develops at his/her own pace, and we encourage them to participate and grow accordingly. Each child will be positively reinforced for his/her efforts.
Below are important factors to consider when selecting a preschool.
Teachers’ Education:
- Mt. Zion teachers: Have Bachelor’s Degrees
- Are Credentialed through MD State Dept. of Educ.
- Complete 24 hours of training yearly
Curriculum
Mt. Zion uses a MD State Department of Education approved curriculum, "Opening the World of Learning." OWL by Pearson is a comprehensive, early-literacy program.
Assessments:
- Mt. Zion conducts assessments two times a year
Class Size:
- Smaller than state required
- 2- year-old Class: 2 adults – 6 children
- 3-year-old Class: 2 adults – 11 children
- 4-year-old Class: 2 adults – 18 children
- Mt. Zion provides more individual attention.
Length of School Day:
2 1/2 hours for twos and threes, three hours for fours. Activities are conducted to address the developmentally appropriate attention span of the children.
